Psih. Drd. Claudiu Negosanu

“Before being a mental health professional, I am human—just like you. One with hopes and fears, a past that’s sometimes joyful, sometimes not so much. With successes and disappointments, the challenges of being a parent, the endless grind of paperwork and bills—the weight of everyday stress. As we know, no one is spared the twists and turns of real life. And in the wryly, tongue-in-cheek words of Neil Gaiman, “Life is a sexually transmitted disease that it’s invariably fatal.” And there is absolutely nothing wrong in this. On the contrary, the beauty of life lies precisely in its fragility, preciousness limits. These are the very things that stir us, that push us to overcome them, give us a relentless desire to live, to enjoy every “today” and the strength to fight for tomorrow.

Everything exists in the same “cycle of life”. The only difference is, as humans, we’re the only beings of the Animal Kingdom who can truly tell right and the wrong—and have the capacity to carry the weight of this knowledge. This is what I’ve learned—and continue to learn: how we can use tools available to all of us—now empowered by the incredible advances in modern psychology—to ease inner suffering enough to (re)discover our path and sense of meaning.

So, despite my professional training, my role isn’t that of the “expert” – another one. It’s something else entirely. Before I apply any specific psychotherapeutic methods, my first task is to listen. Really listen. Then to understand, to accept you without judgment, and, ultimately, to feel alongside you. In an ideal world, empathy—the sum of all these things—wouldn’t just be the foundation of the therapeutic relationship, but of all relationships. That, in many ways, is what therapeia—healing—is all about.

Only after we’ve taken those steps, and spoken truly “human to human,” in the deepest and most authentic sense, can we fully experience the therapeutic process. I, as a psychologist, benefit from the progress we’ll make together—and you, from restoring your peace, inner balance, and your connection with others.”
